Soccer Party

Posted on

Yesterday  morning was pretty tough.

We lost power the night before and it wasn’t back on when I woke up.

I couldn’t stop thinking about all the food in our 2 refrigerators and huge freezer.

Should I eat it all?

Can I eat it all?

How can I possibly eat it all?

Luckily the power came back on a couple of hours later, or I would’ve worked myself into a frenzy.

OK, now that you know how much I care about my food, let me show you what I made for my son’s end-of-season soccer party last week:

I kept picturing it falling off the table right before the party.

Who does that???

Anyway, I also made mini cupcakes with a soccer ball on top.  I made the soccer balls with chocolate molds.

Let me tell you—it was only 2 colors, but it took forever!

The kids loved these and they went really fast.  (Well, my youngest son’s cupcake went really fast… onto the floor.)

But he ran back for another one, so it’s all good.

And I threw in some brownies, just for fun.

(For more cakes, see my photo gallery.)

  4. I really love it! Perfection. I can’t believe you made those cupcakes too! You go all out. 🙂 And I’ll tell you who worries about a cake falling off the table. The decorator. We can’t help it–after all that work, we worry that the cake wont’ survive to tell the tale. lol

    • Thank you Veronica! I still didn’t feel like I had enough desserts (even though there were other mini cupcakes that aren’t shown here). LOL. And I’m so glad I’m not the only one who imagines my cakes getting destroyed!! 🙂

  23. Did you make the soccer ball with a cake pan? I really want to find out how to make a sphere cake without one, but I know it’ll be a royal pain. Any tips you have would be wonderful. XD Plus, they look amazing. I’m not strictly a beginner baker, but fondant and buttercream designs just hate me. XP Thanks.

    • Hi! I did use the ball pan for the soccer ball. Normally I carve my cakes into whatever shape I need (don’t know if you’ve seen the posts), except for a sphere. You can always make several cakes, stack them on top of each other and carve– but it’s tough. Or you can bake them in rounded bowls. But I really would recommend the ball pan. 🙂 I’m sure fondant and buttercream don’t hate you– they just haven’t gotten to know you yet. I just started making cakes like 2 years ago, so I’m still learning myself! 🙂

      • I’m glad this was here! I was just going to ask how you got the soccer ball cake to be a perfect sphere! I don’t have a ball pan, and I recently made a death star cake for my nephew…I ended up using metal mixing bowls to bake the two halves. It was -almost- a good sphere, but seemed to spread out in the middle where the cakes were stacked. I’ll have to look for a ball pan!

        • You should definitely look for the ball pan– I’ve used it for several different cakes so far! You still have to cut the tops to make them flat– but it’s easy.
