My son told me he didn’t want a huge birthday party this year. Just his best friends over at the house.
I thought this was going to be easy… until he said he still wanted a dessert table.
With a Luigi cake.
This turned out to be the most difficult cake yet:
At one point, I wanted to ‘accidentally’ drop it on the floor, and just go with the cupcakes.
But with my husband’s help, I finally finished it about 3 hours before the boys arrived.
I’m not too thrilled with it, but it was the best I could do in the time I had.
I have more Super Mario baked goods that I will have to post later this week. But for now, here are the chocolate mustaches I made for each boy.
They loved holding them up to their faces and acting silly.
Oh, and the “non-party” ended up being nine 9-year-old boys in my house for 5 hours.
Yeah, and I thought it would be easy. Ha!
wow wow wow. Especially love the ‘staches:-)
Aw, thank you Liz! 🙂
How can you not be thrilled with that!!? It looks amazing! The mustaches are hilarious. What a clever idea!
Thank you so much, Kelly! And you should’ve seen all the boys holding the mustaches up to their faces! Lol.

Aw, thank you!! 🙂
how did you make Luigi? it’s a great cake!! and I love the pinata!
I carved his head out of a cake I made in a loaf pan, and the pipe is 4 cake layers (9-inch). Then I covered it with fondant. Crazy amount of work, lol. Thank you so much!! 🙂
AMAZING! I want one for my birthday too!
Lol, thank you!!! 🙂
The result is great!
Aw, thanks so much!
Omg!!! That’s an amazing cake! I can’t see why you’re not thrilled with it – it looks so shockingly perfect to me! Wowww you’re so talented! And… I loveeee the piñata!
Aw, that is so sweet!! Thank you!!!!!!!!! 🙂
you’re kidding, right? Luigi looks amazing!
Nope, I wasn’t kidding– it didn’t come out as well as I had hoped. But thank you SO much, I’m starting to feel much better, knowing that people like it! 🙂

LOVE the pinata! So clever!
Thanks! And way easier than some of the other pinatas my husband has made! 🙂
This is fabulous! I love everything! Although I am particularly fond of the mystery box pinata. Have you ever seen the lamp someone made that looks like this, which you can ‘punch’ to turn on or off? (Very clever!)
Thank you!!! And I’ve never heard of that lamp– sounds pretty cool! 🙂
Absolutely fantastic cake!! Really impressive, I’d say your son was delighted! 🙂
Thank you so much! And yes, he loved it! 🙂
You’re not thrilled about this? Why not? This is so awesome! My husband and I are huge Mario fans and this has left both of us absolutely speechless. I can’t believe I’m going to say this but we are very jealous of your son right now! Haha.
Oh, and do give the lucky boy a big birthday hug from us! 🙂
Aw, that’s so nice of you! Yeah, it didn’t come out as nice as I had hoped, but comments like yours make me feel SO much better about it. Thank you so much!! 🙂
Amazing cake! I bet your son’s smiles made all the hard work worthwhile..
Thank you!! And yes, it was definitely worth it. Good thing I’ll never have to make another Luigi cake again, though. Lol.
The chocolate moustache is very ingenious & cute!
And awesome cake! Who would have think of putting the candles like that? Uber cool!
Thanks again! 🙂 I thought of the candles at the last minute– I’m so glad I did!!
OMG! This looks fantastic! I’m sold! =D
Aw, thank you so much. 🙂
Thank you!!! 🙂
Reblogged this on Brock Tenk Journal.

Holy wow! That is amazing!
Aww, thank you so much! 🙂
OMG THAT IS AMAZING!!! Is the Luigi edible??
Thank you so much!! Yes, Luigi is edible– cake under the fondant. 🙂
Amazing! I have a 5 year old that would love this for his next birthday.
Thank you so much!! 🙂 The kids at the party really did love this cake.
That cake is amazing! And those moustaches look like so much fun 😀
Thank you so much! 🙂
My son’s playroom is NES themed with Super Mario Bros amongst the games highlighted. I loved your cake, and think you did a fabulous job. One of the best things about being hard on yourself is that you continue to grow and learn, so I won’t tell you to take it easy. Instead, I’ll tell you, you’re doing great!
Thank you!!! And I’ll definitely try to continue growing and learning! 🙂
My son would have loved this for his birthday, he just turned 21, is that sad or should I say nostalgic?? 😊😊
Aw, I’d say nostalgic. 🙂
Love this!! I wish u had a step by step on how to make his face. I have no idea how to do that part.
Thank you!!! 🙂 I would have no idea how to do the step by step. I just looked at a picture of Luigi and then cut out the pieces of fondant. The head is a cake made in a ball pan. The nose was all fondant. Does that help?
